Family Medicine Residency Program
The DeTar Family Medicine Residency Program in Victoria, Texas, is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program led by Dr. Julia Shae Krause‑Castaneda. The program provides residents with hands-on training across a wide spectrum of family medicine, including inpatient care, obstetrics, community health clinics, international medicine, behavioral health integration, telemedicine and chronic disease management. With the arrival of the newest class, DeTar now has 25 residents, each contributing to a healthcare mission deeply rooted in community and care. Residents not only come to learn, but to build meaningful connections with patients and the community, strengthening the very heart of South Texas.
Situated within a community-focused hospital system, the residency program emphasizes the connection between patient care and service. Residents benefit from mentorship from experienced faculty and have the opportunity to make a tangible impact in local communities. With a focus on prevention, leadership, and relationship-based care, the program prepares physicians to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients of all ages.
