He attended the University of Kansas for college and medical school and completed his surgery residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. After residency, Dr. Chang served two years in the United States Army as a general surgeon, while also performing weight loss surgery procedures.
Dr. Chang completed his military service in 2002; he and his family then moved to Dallas, where he performed a one-year fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern (Parkland Hospital) specializing in laparoscopic surgery.
